Odds & Ends.

Hello! It's been far too long since I posted. I hope you are well. Our lives are more hectic than ever and I've been trying to get things done around the house, forgive my absence.

I found these fun, kind of zebra chevron rugs at Target a couple weeks ago. I thought they would be a nice change in the kitchen. They match the granite counters really well and they add a fun touch.

 

 

 

My Peonies are blooming. They make me so happy. I have so many more blooms this year. I think they've finally taken root. It's such a sweet reminder of my grandparents. 

 

 

Remember the barn wood I ordered? Well I am making some hand painted signs. Here is the first ones I made for the back of the bride & groom's chair. Now available in the shop.

The Final Touches.

I finally got up a board for my daughter's photos & things. I had this one all made and just repainted the frame white. Instead of worrying about pins laying around I hot glued black ribbon in a criss cross pattern so she could just tuck her things in more like her old memo board.

Notice her chalkboard wall looks a little different :) I hung a little metal container that holds her chalk and a sock to erase the wall when she needs to. Her and her friends write some funny stuff.

I made the grey striped pillow from some vintage fabric I had. I think it ties the tulle pom in nicely.

No room is complete without flowers so I cut a few lilacs from the yard and put them on her bookshelf in one of my ironstone pitchers.

I also added a couple of my vintage suitcases to the corner of her room. Perfet for holding all those little things that she accumulates.

I think I will call it officially done. It was a lot of fun to put together and the chalkboard wall has been a hit with everyone who has seen it!

The Bath Makeover.

Well it's been quite awhile but the bath is finished. My sweet Dad hung the baskets and my vintage "D" for me yesterday. I hung the kid's pictures, cleaned, and here it is.

It just needed a little refreshing, some paint, sconce shades, a simple window treatment and a few things to organize. I didn't spend much money but the bath looks fresh & clean and organized.

 

 

I decided the baskets looked better near the radiator since they had the same finish. I hung the "D" above,it adds a fun little touch. I put the things we use everyday in them and the cabinet holds the things we use less frequently.

I reused a mirror that came from our old blue bath and added a basket for more storage. This is our main bath that the whole family uses so storage is key. (yes, I'm wearing my coat, I'm always cold).

I put all my makeup in the vintage jar I bought and an ironstone dish holds my little things.

I found this coat rack at Target and thought it would work as a towel holder.

Girl's Bedroom Reveal.

Hello!

I just couldn't wait any longer so I thought I'd share her room with you. Here is a little peek at what we started with. The furniture had been moved for the painter but you can get an idea. The walls had been like this since she was a baby. The bed frame was cream color.

We started with our Nimbus Gray by Benjamin Moore. I loved the way the trim just stood out.

I kept the curtains and took the opportunity to clean windows, under her bed and the closet so she would have a fresh start.

I got the duvet and shams from PB and painted her bed with Annie Sloan chalk paint in white.

She found the typography pillow and we had the "5" it was relocated from the basement. The gray throw is from Target and I customized most of the shades. The ones on the chandelier are from Lowe's. The chandelier is from Home Depot last year. The black & white boxes are from Joann's. The mirror was a $5 mirror and I trimmed it out with molding to make it look prettier.

The chalkboard wall is still curing but I'm sure it'll be scribbled on soon!

I still need to make/find a bulletin board for all her photos, it'll go on the wall behind the chair.

I had a gray tulle pom hanging around so for now we put it on the bed but the shade of gray is a little off so I will probably change it out when I have time.

We left the closet painted like it's always been (it's from the book Guess How Much I Love You). Neither of us were ready to part with that.

Nimbus Gray.

Well we finally decided to paint our daughter's room. I didn't want to rush her since it's been that way since she was little.

We picked Nimbus Gray a pretty blue/gray color. It's one of Candice Olsen's picks for favorite neutrals.

 

She picked this duvet cover and shams.

We did one wall in chalkboard paint so she could doodle.

I'm super excited, it looks really great! The white trim really pops. I still have to paint her bed frame which I hope to get to this week. I'll paint that in white chalk paint I have left from the bathroom vanity. I am still waiting for my wire baskets so as soon as they arrive and I hang them I'll share the bath too!

Then just a a couple pretty  baskets to hide her stuff and we should be good. I'll post about it when we get it all pulled together.

Looking for Feedback. IKEA chairs.

I found these chairs from IKEA and wondered if anyone has them or has seen them in person? They are about half the cost of the PB ones with the slip covers and was thinking they might be a good alternative to save some money (maybe I can get them sooner rather than later). I did see you need to assemble them so I'm a bit skeptical but could be convinced :) 

 

Here is the PB one I like in the linen cover.

Since I would need to buy online (we don't have a store nearby) any advice or input would be greatly appreciated!

I love this.

We have a blank wall in our family room and every now and then I'll move something there and the kids complain since it's the wall they use for the basketball net and the volleyball wall so I move what I'd like to put there so they can enjoy "the wall". 

When I saw this I not only loved what it said and thought it would be a sweet reminder to us each day but it was also a great way of putting something on that wall without taking it away from the kids.

I ordered it this week in black letters. I can't wait for it to arrive!

What I'm waiting for.

I'm waiting for  a few things to arrive to complete the bath. 

I ordered these last week from WUSLU.com. My plan is to hang them in a column to hold all the things that we currently have out on our vanity. I love their rustic quality.

 

I ordered these items from haven vintage on Etsy. My plan is to use the vintage jar for my makeup so it's handy but also looks pretty. And the "D" I just thought that would be a fun touch!

I took down our old towel bar and toilet paper holder they were mostly silver but had gold too. Everything else is brushed nickel so I found a Martha Stewart paper holder that matches nicely. That's up and I decided since one towel bar isn't really practical for a family of five I'd make my own. I've got my supply list so that's tomorrow's project!

As soon as I can get these finishing touches done I'll share it with you! Hope you are well!

New Blog Design & LIttle Shades.

I'm so excited for you to see my new blog design. The lovely and talented Hope of Paper Relics did it for me and I'm so happy with it. She was such a pleasure to work with and really got what I wanted, thank you Hope! 

I'm also happy to say the bath is almost done! The ceiling, walls and cabinet are painted. I still have some distressing to do and then wax the cabinet. Then just the accessories!

Yesterday I customized the plain sconce shades I purchased at Lowes with some satin ribbon that I pleated and stitched on my sewing machine.

Then I used my gun glue to adhere the ribbon to the bottom of the shades. I started at the seam in the shade. I just dotted some glue every inch or so until I made my way around the whole shade.

I love that it's simple but so pretty!

My Faux Roman Shade.

I created a Faux Roman Shade for the bath window. The glass is frosted so I didn't really need it to work. The window has been plain for quite some time so I decided since I was giving the whole bath an overhaul I'd make something for the window too!

I did a whole tutorial which will be published on Houzz (I'll let you know when!). 

 

Here it is waiting to be hung!

I used a painter's drop cloth from Lowes, it cost me $5.50 and the cost of the wood. The whole window treatment was under $10! Can't beat that, can you? And it looks like linen.
